A Brief History

As early as 2000, branch classes were taught in Olympia. In 2002, people requested a Kadampa Buddhist teacher. In response Geshe Kelsang Gyatso established the Olympia Mahayana Buddhist Center (OMBC) and sent a Resident Teacher. As a place of joy and refuge, OMBC's function is to show people how to overcome their delusions and create peace, love and harmony in their lives.

Financial Support

Initially supported by the Vajralama Center in Seattle, OMBC has been financially independent for four years. It has grown to its present size through donations, class fees and residential rental income. It is supported solely through the kindness of local people.

Ways people contribute to the Center:

  • Become a Supporter who pays regular monthly fees for classes
  • Make a donation of money or items for our wish list
  • Help with fundraising
  • Become a resident at the Dharma House

How to Become a Supporter

You can become a General Program (GP) supporter of OMBC by making a commitment to contribute $40 a month for at least six months. Your monthly contribution covers all general program classes at the center, including classes on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings, and classes in Shelton and Tacoma. Also, as a GP supporter you are eligible for discounts on special events and daycourses.

For more information or to sign up as a OMBC Supporter you can email us at info@meditateinolympia.org or phone us at (360) 754-7787.

Whenever we help our Dharma center, either with our prayers, by volunteering our time and energy, or through financial contributions, in reality we are helping all living beings.

OMBC is a 501(c)3 organization, making your donations tax deductible.
